About the Studio
Located in Billings, MT and online, Lauren nurtures students toward remarkable growth and achievements, including earning top placements in competitive ensembles and music programs, earning significant scholarship awards and competition prizes, and helping students of all ages and experience levels create their own musical milestones. With a caring approach, she provides her students with essential resources, first-hand knowledge, and challenging performance opportunities that build an experienced musician. By pairing thorough audition and performance preparation with a supportive environment, she empowers her flute students to discover their musical dreams, thrive in challenging performance settings, and realize their full potential.

60-Minute Lessons

Recommended for advanced high-school and adult students.

Ideal for flutists that prioritize their musical studies and aim to expand their artistry, are interested in highly competitive ensembles and solo competitions, and/or are considering a career in music.

Students prepare for competitive ensemble auditions such as All-State and/or BSYO, performing challenging solo repertoire, gain performance experience with piccolo, and/or audition for scholarship competitions as well as collegiate music programs.
45-Minute Lessons
- Recommended for advanced middle-school students, high-school students, and adults.
- Ideal for those ready to expand their skills, wanting to audition for an ensemble, and gain more performance experience.
- Students focus on preparing solo repertoire for recitals and festivals, regional audition prep, and expanding to learn auxiliary flutes (piccolo).
Studio Offerings
Studio Recitals
At least twice a year, students perform solo repertoire with a professional pianist as a part of our studio recitals. This is a great opportunity to be inspired by and connect with other flute players, and also to build your own confidence on stage.
Summer Sessions
Each year, special summer intensives are offered with various topics including audition prep, piccolo technique, flute repertoire & history, and more. These specialty classes are a great way to expand your flute-related knowledge.
Chamber Music
Small chamber groups are offered in addition to solo performances for studio recitals. This is a great way to build your musical independence all while having fun with your peers.
Auxiliary Flutes
Students expand their skills and ensemble opportunities with dedicated instruction on piccolo, alto flute, and bass flute. This is helpful for advancing in band, orchestra, and/or flute choir!
Audition Prep
Comprehensive coaching for honor bands, youth orchestras, and college entrance auditions. We focus on masterfully preparing excerpts and solos while building performance resilience.
Common Questions
What do I need for my first lesson?
A flute in good working condition (has had a professional Clean-Oil-Adjust within the past year), binder for sheet music, notebook for lesson notes and assignments, and a growth mindset.
How much daily practice is expected?
Practice time expectations are specific to each student and dependent on their musical goals, age, and experience. Appropriate practice time can range from 20 mins a day (beginners) to over 2 hours daily (students wanting to major in music).
How often are lessons held?
After completing the registration process, students are assigned a weekly lesson slot that repeats for the remainder of the current term (Sep-Dec, Jan-May, Jun-Aug). The studio offers rescheduling as needed, but does not offer every-other-week scheduling or discounts for missed lessons at this time.
Are online lessons available?
Yes, virtual lessons are offered for students who live outside Billings, as an option for weather/transportation emergencies, if anyone is recovering from illness, and/or has mobility concerns.
Am I required to perform in studio recitals?
Yes, all students are encouraged to participate in studio recitals in some capacity (solos, duets with Lauren, etc.)
What age is best to start lessons?
It's never too late to start flute lessons or pick up an old hobby-- this studio has had students range in age from 7 to in their 70s! However, the earlier a student begins lessons, the more time they can spend building good habits on their instrument. Most beginners in the Montana school system start between the ages of 10-12 years old, and some students begin even younger with the aid of a curved headjoint. Dedicated students of all ages are welcome!
